“Memphis Meets the Middle East”
Visit of Rhodes College Freshmen of the Class of 2013 to Masjid as-Salam

Freshmen of the Class of 2013 from Rhodes College visited Masjid as-Salam as a part of the Freshmen orientation program “Memphis Meets the Middle East.” This was the fifth annual visit of Rhodes College Freshmen. The students got the chance to observe a congregational prayer (Dhuhr or Midday Prayer), learned about Islam and about Ramadan, and got to eat snacks from the Muslim World. They also visited the Youth and Dawah Center before their return. This program is an annual program facilitated by Dr. Dee Birnbaum at Rhodes College in conjunction with Masjid as-Salam and the Muslim Society of Memphis.


MAS Youth Memphis Visitation of Our Esteemed Elders

MAS Youth Memphis would like to thank the Virk family for generously allowing the youth to visit their home and their parents. The youth presented flowers and thank you cards to the esteemed elders. The youth discussed various subjects with the esteemed elders including their childhood experiences in their countries of origin; their experience in coming to America; and their experience living in America and as educated professionals. The First Annual Islamic Jeopardy Competition

MAS Youth Memphis hosted the First Annual Islamic Jeopardy Competition at the Memphis Youth and Dawah Center. MAS Youth Memphis would like to thank all both the participants (around 25) and the audience for coming out to the event. The participants were placed in Middle School, High School, and College categories and answered questions of those difficulties. The subjects ranged from Famous People, Islamic History, Capitals, and Famous Places to Aqeedah and Fiqh, the Science of Hadith, and Muslim Scientists and Explorers. The top three winners in each level were awarded $30.00, $25.00, and $20.00 gift cards, respectively. MAS Youth Memphis congratulates the winners and gives special recognition to Fatima Darboe, who, MashAllah, scored the highest in ALL THREE CATEGORIES.
