MAS Youth Memphis was first established in the city of Memphis, TN in 2007 as
Crew 220 of the Venturing program of the Boy Scouts of America. This group,
comprising fifteen to twenty youths from around Memphis, participated in diverse
activities ranging from camping in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi, to
community service at masjid events, to trips to the annual MAS Convention in
Chicago and to the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. In December
2008, following the visit to Memphis of Dr. Wael Hamza from MAS New York, a team
of six youth leaders went to MAS Youth New York’s First Annual Leadership
retreat and gained vital experience in leadership, time management, events
planning, community service, and organizational skills. After returning to
Memphis, this group of youth leaders re-established and reenergized MAS Youth
Memphis.
Currently, MAS Youth Memphis has more than thirty members and is continuously
expanding, Alhamdulillah. MAS Youth Memphis has
weekly programs and events for the youth of Memphis. These events include MAS
Youth Memphis Movie Night, Halaqah Night, Game Night, General Body Meeting, and,
a novel program established in Memphis, MAS Youth Memphis Career Focus. The
Community Service committee arranges volunteering activities throughout the
greater Memphis area, including delivering meals to senior citizens as part of
the MIFA Meals on Wheels program.
InshAllah, MAS Youth Memphis hopes to grow and continue to serve the youth of
Memphis for many years to come.
